Deming – Clayton F Deming Clayton Deming Clayton F Deming, Sr, 90, of Torrington, CT, passed away Friday, July 28th, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of the late Ruth Yarocki Deming.

Clayton was born in Torrington, CT on August 6, 1926, a son of the late Ruth (Soule) and Arthur Deming. He attended Torrington High and OWTS, and served in the US Marine Corp. 1st Marine Division during WWII, a participant in the Battle of Okinawa.

He was a self employed carpenter, building many homes in Torrington.

A lifetime member First Congregational Church in Torrington, he served as their Scout Leader for Boy Scout Troop 23. He was also a member of The Marine Corp League.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou Pavlik and husband Blair, and Beth Denis Podhajecki and husband Stephen, and two sons, Clayton F. Deming Jr. and wife Brenda, and Bruce Deming and wife Diane. He also leaves 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Arthur Deming III and Mason Deming, and sisters Olive Ferry, Almira Wheeler, and Helen Young

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, August 5th at First Congregational Church . Friends may call 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 5th at Phalen Funeral Home.

Deming – Ruth Yarocki Deming Ruth Deming Ruth Yarocki Deming, 85, died at her home on July 20,2015 surrounded by her family after a six year battle with melanoma cancer. She was the wife of Clayton F. Deming Sr. for 67 years.

Ruth was born on June 13, 1930 in Torrington, CT and was a graduate of Torrington High School in 1948. She was the daughter of Teofel "Tony" and Mildred Bronson Yarocki. Besides her husband Clayton she is survived by her brother George L. Yarocki and his wife Mildred, her daughter Mary Lou Pavlik and her husband Blair, her son Clayton Jr. and his wife Brenda, her daughter Beth Denis Podhajecki and her husband Stephen, her son Bruce and his wife Diane as well as ten grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren and two more on the way. Her joy in life was raising her children and caring for her family.

Ruth was one of the first two waitresses at Friendly's restaurant in Torrington when it opened in 1970, later she worked with her daughter Mary Lou at the Torin Corp. cafeteria and then at the Vogel-Wetmore School cafeteria. She was a great asset and partner to her husband Clayton in his carpentry business as well as in life; and assisted her brother George in his Indian motorcycle endeavors.
She was an active, life- long member of the First Congregational Church in West Torrington and a member of the Hope Grange.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday July 25th at 11:30 AM at the First Congregational Church on the corner of Riverside Ave. and Rte 4. Burial will be at the Old Hemlock Cemetery in Colebrook at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Saturday from 8:30-11 at Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon ave Torrington.

The family wishes to thank the Smilow Cancer Center at Yale New Haven, the VNA Northwest nurses, aides and hospice caregivers and especially Ruth's two daughter-in- laws Diane and Brenda for the loving care they provided her. Also thanks go to the members of the First Congregational Church for their spiritual and culinary support.

MOORE – Rujo Moore Rujo Moore, 90, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Valerie Manor Health Care Center in Torrington following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Shirley (Kolega) Moore. Born March 19, 1924, at the Litchfield County Hospital in Winsted, he was the son of the late Martha (Tiffany) and Frederick North Moore and had lived here all of his life. Rujo had attended local schools and graduated from The Gilbert School, Class of 1942. He also attained a diploma from International Correspondence School, certifying him as an electrical engineer. He was an Army Veteran of WW II, having served with Co. "D", 350th Engineers Regiment, 1943-1946 in the China-Burma-India Theater and was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. Rujo was proud of his service to his country. At every parade, he saluted the flag, no matter how many went by. Prior to his retirement, he had worked for Northeast Utilities for 38 years, retiring in 1984 as project coordinator. Rujo was an active member of the Winsted Fire Dept., Engine #3 for 25 years, and an honorary member since 1973; served on the Winchester Board of Selectmen for two years; 60+ years as a member and Past Master of Riverton Grange as well as a member of Mountain County Pomona and Connecticut State Grange; past President of the Hemlock Cemetery Assn; member of the Second Congregational Church, member of their choir for over 30 years and active on its building and grounds committee for 40 years. He was a member and past president of having acquired the distinction of being the first male president of this once women's organization, the Auxiliary for Community Health, was a volunteer at Winsted Memorial Hospital and Winchester Historical Society where he was a past president and director. In addition to his loving wife of 67 years, he leaves three daughters, Susan Belle-Isle, Cynthia (Dan) Levine and Claudia (James) Helm; daughter-in-law, Mary Passini Moore; grandchildren, Tiffany (James) Wynn, Marcus (Heather) Moore and Abigail Helm; great-grandchildren, Juniper and Bernard Wynn and D.C.Y. Rujo Moore; also a sister, Evelyn Hawley. He was predeceased by sons, Eugene & Frederick Moore and son-in-law, Dennis Belle-Isle; brothers, Richard, J. Robert and David N. Moore; sisters, Athena Dickinson, Alfaretta Rowland, Ruby Washington and Marion Sleath. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Second Congregational Church (formerly the Church of Christ) 800 Main Street, Winsted. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Second Congregational Church or to the Winsted Fire Dept. Engine #3. FERRY – Olive (Deming) Ferry Olive (Deming) Ferry Olive 'Nanny" (Deming) Ferry, 95, of Plymouth, widow of Ward L. Ferry Sr., died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013 at her home. Olive was born April 5, 1918 in Torrington. She was the daughter of the late Arthur C. Deming Sr. and Ruth (Soule) Deming and has been a resident of Plymouth for 72 years. Prior to her retirement she worked for the former Iseli Co. of Plymouth. Olive was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Plymouth and also a member of the Litchfield County Homemakers. Olive loved quilting, playing cards, gardening and was a historian/story teller. She is survived by her son, Maynard "Red" Ferry and his wife Cris of Harwinton; her daughter, Patricia (Ferry) Brazee Kopcha of Plymouth; her brother, Clayton Deming and his wife Ruth of Torrington; her sister-in-law, Jean Deming of Torrington; her son-in-law, Roger Gangloff of Thomaston; her daughter-in-law, Marilyn (Aurora) Ferry of Thomaston, 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Ward Ferry Jr.; her daughter, Dale (Ferry) Gangloff; her brothers, Mason and Arthur Deming Jr. and her sisters, Almira Wheeler and Helen Young. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, 2 p.m. at First Congregational Church of Plymouth. Burial at the convenience of the family will be in Hemlock Meeting Cemetery, Colebrook. DEMING – Joann (Vinton) Deming, 72, of Winsted, wife of the late Robert Deming, Sr. for 50 years, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 25, 2012. Joann was born on March 29, 1940 in Rockville, CT; the daughter of the late George and Margaret (Carrigan) Vinton. Prior to her retirement, Joann was, for many years, the Secretary at the Colebrook Consolidated School where her typical duties might include anything from typing a memo, to bandaging a skinned knee, to helping out a student who had forgotten their lunch money. Her kind, witty and gentle spirit will be missed by her children, Doreen Piersanti, and her husband Greg of Concord, NC, Robert Deming, Jr., and his wife Sarah O'Connor of Windsor, CT, and Daniel Deming and his partner, Sharon Gill of Winsted, CT. Joann also leaves three grandchildren, Matthew and Marissa Piersanti and Luke Deming. Joann is also survived by two brothers, George Vinton and his wife Annette of AZ and Robert Vinton and his wife Beth of CO, a sister, Mary McGann and her husband Jim of MA and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Friday, November 30, 2012 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted from 11 AM – 12:30 PM with a funeral service at 12:30 PM.
